My journey in getting my first DK/German shorthair was a three year long process. I called and wrote to many breeders in my area of California with little to no response. I finally picked out a breeder in Oregon and was on a list for over two years before my wife and I grew fed up. We had heard good things about Cati's DKs but was hesitant to get a pup from overseas. After reaching out to Cati I knew right away that she was different from other breeders. She was so knowledgeable, answered all our questions and gave references in the US. We chose an upcoming breeding between Paris and Zonja. Throughout the process Cati regularly gave me updates on Zonja. We chose LaKara (call name Kara) from the litter and couldn't be happier. I have 2 small children and Kara has been a wonderful family dog, she is so calm, affectionate, and quiet. Kara also has so much potential in the field, as a first time handler I'm astonished with her capabilities. Her on/off switch is something else; I regularly joke Kara seems like she is an 8 year old dog not a 8 month old puppy. I have high hopes for her testing career. I wouldn't hesitate getting another puppy from Cati in the future.
We lost our dog about a year ago. He was our third GSP. We were devastated. We thought we would never get another one because we couldn’t go through that again. It didn’t take long before we realized we couldn’t live our lives without one. Then started our journey trying to find the right dog, the right breeder.
We did a lot of homework online and messaged and talked with many of Catrinel’s clients and there was no doubt that she was the breeder we were going with. She was very responsive to all our questions, as we have never gotten a dog online much less overseas before. She told us about the entire process and kept us updated with paperwork and lots of pictures. She was very patient with us and helped guide us through picking a puppy as we had a hard time without actually being there. When we picked Louie she sent many pictures! We feel like we already knew him by the time we got him!
Louie is more beautiful than we ever imagined. He is a great puppy. He is easily been training, pointing birds and our house is full again.
Thank you so much for everything you did for us Catrinel, your professionalism is impeccable!
I have owned German Shorthaired Pointers for most of my life, but I have never owned one with a stronger natural drive to hunt than my Donau-Wirbeln GSP. My new pup, J’Adore von den Donau-Wirbeln, is exceptionally smart and easy to train as well.
I’ve always purchased my GSPs stateside because of the hassle in international pet shipping. Catrinel could not have been more knowledgeable and professional throughout the entire process...including getting my pup’s registration transferred to AKC. She quite literally takes care of everything and makes the process as easy as it can be. She’s a total pro. Cati is also one of the most knowledgeable breeders of GSPs you can find and she’s always willing to help when I have questions. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
Cati, just wanted to send you a note of thank you. Dolce Vita “Vita” is a beautiful pup. Her conformation is outstanding. She moves with grace, elegance, power and purpose in the field. Her first season hunting has been very impressive, she has world class style. Vita is very intelligent and picks up on everything whether in the field or home. I know this sounds crazy but she has assisted in yard raking , fence building and in one flash learned the ice dispenser on the refrigerator. While funny she understands I and I alone dispense the ice. She paws twice on the bottom door to show me she wants an ice cube. She has become an integral part of our family. I had my first DK litter this year and Vita has become the pups big sister and playmate. Thank you again and I’ll keep you posted on her upcoming test season.

I would like to say thank for the opportunity to have a pup from your kennel. Gloriana has been such a fun adventure. I remember when we started this journey, I questioned everything but you made us feel so comfortable through the buying and shipping processes. I have been raising German Shorthair Pointers for 24 years now and she is my first from your kennels and will not be my last. That is how impressed I am by everything.
Gloriana came to us with a great prey drive and a spirited attitude. She has earned various nicknames from us and other people that hunt with us (Panther, Black Mamba, Black Ninja, etc) all due to her cunning ways and quickness (ex. May have lost some chickens due to her speed and their lack of respect for her). She has won our hearts over completely!
Gloriana is 8 months old and is steadily becoming the hunter that hunters dream of. She hunts very methodically already and is very versatile with what she can hunt. Gloriana is doing very well as a young pup. She has been gun broke and whoa broke since she was 5 months old.
Gloriana has been great as not only a hunting companion but as a home companion. She has a loving disposition. She really enjoys my young sons and they enjoy her as well. They love playing fetch with her. Gloriana will retrieve anything.
Lastly Gloriana has a beautiful conformation. Strong and sturdy with beautiful houndy ears. Gloriana turns a lot of heads wherever we go. She has a very soft black coat the feels like crushed velvet. The coat is different from other ones I have had in the past. My wife and oldest son are not allergic to Gloriana's fur so that is a great bonus too!
You dedication to the breed is amazing and nothing but first class!
Thank you again for everything,
Micah and family
We are so pleased with Eros and he lives up to the expectations that we had in getting him from you.
As you know we have now had 4 wonderful pointers from you since 2011, Daisy, Blume, Diamant and now Eros.
We hunt with all of them, Blume and Diamant mainly for shooting on our French estate but Daisy has always been our companion in the house and on our travels between France and our house in Ireland where we mainly hunt with hawks.
Eros too will be with us between the two places and we will be preparing him mainly for hawking.
In our dealings with you we could not have been more impressed and it is clear from their temperament that you could not put more care and attention into the breeding of these marvelous working dogs.
Your breeding line is ideal for our requirements, working hard in the field as well as loyal and trustworthy pets .
Your knowledge of the international transport requirements is second to none and your assurance that the carriers could not be more caring is a testament to the personal care that you put into all your dogs.
We are hoping to have a hunting break in Romania next year and would look forward to meeting you some time during our stay.
Thank you once again for Eros and we will keep you informed as to his progress and life with us.

First of all, I want to say thanks to Cati & Didi for giving your precious litter to me.
At the moment I met my little princesses Fiona and Finn, I noticed they were loved and well cared.
I think it is very important not only good blood but also their first circumstance.
Catrinel Pauna, my dear friend, she has deep understanding about Deutsch Kurzhaar, treats her dogs with love and does her best to make them in good conditions.
Also when we prepared to many importing-exporting matters, she knew exaclty what she had to. All I need was waiting for puppies's growing.
There are some Donau-Wirbeln dogs in Korea, they have good temperament and hunting skills.
If my friend wants to import GSP from abroad, I will absolutely recommend to get from Cati.
Someday, I wish to visit Romania to meet her and her dogs.
Thank you again for amazing girls and your help.
Seoul, South Korea
Please let me introduce Catrinel Pauna who is the owner of Donau-Wirbeln and one of the most knowledgeable and talented breeders of the DK line. Her breeding standards consistently produce award winning dogs. As an owner myself I have seen that her dogs are amazing in the field and a pleasure to have in the home. I consider my dog Lebeau to be my soulmate! He has exceeded my expectations on every level.

The right time arrived at FeatherQuest on April 2, 2016 when Ambrosia-Amira touched down at the Calgary airport in Alberta Canada. A confident little black and white beauty emerged from her crate after a very long journey, and stole the hearts of the whole family. She promptly gave both Dale and I a full face of Romanian kisses, then proceeded in to the back of the jeep to meet the rest of the big dogs. Amira is a firm believer in snuggles with her people, and must touch someone when sleeping. Hanna and Amira have become almost inseparable, and Hanna is quite the guardian over the black princess. Amira has become a part of this family so completely, so fast that it is hard to believe she was not born here.
Catrinel and Didi we must once again thank you for your hard work in ensuring you produce such wonderful dogs. They are of sound conformation and their temperaments make them wonderful family members. In the field they are driven, but work within a walking hunters range. Both Hanna and Amira are natural backers and very fast learners.
Dale and I are both avid CKC show and field test participants. Dale is a CKC field test judge. We are also breeders. It is very difficult for us to choose family members from pictures, without seeing movement or personality in person. Catrinel went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure Amira was the girl we were looking for. Her description of personality was right on the mark, and her predictions for size and conformation are proving to be correct as well. Thank you Cati for answering our endless questions regarding Amira.
Once again the arrangements for import were seemless and complete. All paperwork was in our hands before Amira’s arrival, and you worked your magic to ensure Amira arrived on a day when the whole family was able to go meet her plane. You even stayed up most of the night texting me and waiting for the time our little girl was indeed safely in our care.
We must thank you both once again for all you have done for us and for entrusting us with both Hanna and Amira. They have been a joy and our family would not be complete without them.

Bella "Belize" is almost 6 months now and she has been a real delight. Like most puppies, she is loving and affectionate and full of life. When we are out about town we have been stopped on the street many times and told what a gorgeous dog she is and asked where “did we get her”.
I have had mostly labs throughout the years and one GSP, and that is why we got Bella. I would not hesitate a second to get another beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer from you in the future.

Catrinel was amazing throughout the process of getting my Piper "Athena". She was great with communication and answering any questions I had. She gave me the numbers of other buyers in the US and I was able to speak with them about their experiences as well. It's stressful buying a puppy that you've never met from another country, but they did everything to ease my anxiety. The transaction was easy and she kept me updated about every single step of her transportation by forwarding me the emails from the airline. I've had Piper for about a week and she's amazing. She received a clean bill of health from my vet and she's a little social butterfly. She's great with other people and dogs and gets complimented about her looks and temperament constantly. If I add another dog down the road, I will definitely come back to Catrinel.

Wanted to write to you and thank you again for allowing us to be the new family for Aphrodite (AKA Gracie!). She is an amazing pup, so smart and so much personality. She is a perfect fit for our family and lifestyle. Everybody that meets her falls in love with her. From the day we brought her home it has felt like she has been with our family forever.
I also want to thank you for making the process of importing her into the U.S so easy and less stressful than I had thought it would be. I’m sure I bored you with a thousand questions… but you never failed to give timely and complete answers, can’t tell you how much that meant to us.
I would like to let anybody know that is thinking of getting one of your pups that they should not hesitate for a minute!
Good luck with all your current and future pups… I’m sure we will be taking again about our next family addition.

Many thanks to you for breeding such a fantastic hunting dog.
"ADA" aka URSULA was imported into the UK around spring time 2015. When we collected her from the (48hr) quarantine ADA was full of beans she was not shy or nervous and at that point we knew we had made the right decision re: importing...
After a 6hr journey home ADA was not phased by anything. She met our other gsps "which she bonded with straight away" we took her out for a short walk with the other dogs it was like she had lived with us for weeks I could not believe this was a 17wks old pup that had come all the way from Romania by road... been in a strange place for 48hrs (quarantine) and yet was still full of the joys of life and running and playing with our other gsps.
This was a big surprise to me and at that point I realised she had fitted in to my hunting pack very well.
ADA swims very well... retrieves very well... and hunts with vigour and endless stamina. We have just returned home after a months grouse hawking in Scotland. ADA and my other gsps ran the grouse moors very well. ADA had many points on Red and Black grouse she held the points on her own and flushed on command for the falcon waiting high above.
I would like to thank you Cati for being so helpfull when we first got in touch about acquiring a pup from you... everything went so smoothly and the whole process was so stress free. I would recommend these dogs to anyone. The size, confirmation, coat and attitude to learn from ADA is everything i would want in a hunting partner.
I will keep you updated in her progress as we start shooting and the spring pointing tests next year.

We want to thank you and Didi for our lovely Velvet. She is amazing, with typical kurzhaar character – very active and positive, friendly with other dogs, kind with children and very cute :)
She did first steps in hunting and everything goes well. She is pointing well, very active in the field, smart and crafty. She is swimming like a Labrador :) She is small now but with very big perspective to became a very good hunting dog :) Anyway she has got it from her parents!
Also she has a good beginning in the show career.
We want to thank you for the opportunity to meet your gorgeous dogs! It was a big pleasure for us. They all are amazing! And was nice to meet you too! :)
And most of all thank you very much for your support, all the advices that we got and hope we'll get in the future :)
With best regards

Rana is the newest addition to our family. We now own two German Shorthaired Pointers. We love them both. Urania "Rana" is such a smart dog with amazing drive. She has been a blessing to our family. Not only do we love Rana, we also love Catrinel Pauna for allowing us to be the chosen family for her. Catrinel Pauna was easy to communicate with and the Import Process was easier than we thought it would be. I can honestly say we have talked about a 3rd GSP in the future and will go back to Catrinel Pauna when we are ready for another addition to our family"

Dan and I would like to thank you for helping us bring our beautiful new girl to our home in the United States. From the moment we first made contact with you, we felt confident and assured that we were working with a professional. The transaction could not have gone any better. Your communication and intructions for importing our dog were helpful and accurate. Thank you for answering our endless questions promptly. It is such a pleasure to work with you. Your English is impeccable which also helped to assure us throughout the process.
Unda is such a sweet puppy. From the moment we got home it was obvious that she was well loved. She is naturally curious and confident. Outside her nose is to the ground, taking in all of the new scents. Inside the house she is playful and loves to cuddle. She respects our older dog but is asserting herself as well. She already knows to sit for treats and asks to come in the house. We are impressed with her natural ability to learn fast.
Again, thank you for such a positive transaction. We really wanted a female Hege-Haus German Shorthaired Pointer and you have fulfilled that dream for us. We can't wait to see Unda develop and grow and will keep you updated on her progress.

We love Donau-Wirbeln dogs! They are great family companions and hunters. The dogs are exceptionally intelligent, they learn very quickly while training for obedience, hunt or show. We receive so many wonderful compliments on their beauty and temperament. When buying a dog from Donau-Wirbeln you are buying a dog from experienced conformation and field judges. Cati and Didi are wonderful people who are very committed to improving the German Shorthair breed.
We want to say thank you from a breeder to a breeder.

We cannot thank you enough for entrusting us with Hanna. She has been such a joy to our family from the moment she arrived on November 1, 2012.
Hanna has a wonderful temperament, and hasn't met a person or other dog that wasn't immediately her new best friend. She has many admirers. She also has an amazing nose for birds as well as a natural backing ability. Hanna is highly intelligent and picks up on her training skills extremely fast. She has impressed some of NAVHDA's long time, well respected test judges, and made some lasting impressions on a few breeder judges in the conformation show circuit. Since arriving into Canada Hanna has achieved prizes in NAVHDA's NA and UPT tests. She has also obtained her Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) confirmation title. Hanna's intense desire to hunt is compelling us to have her to compete in CKC field events and begin our journey into the world of DK tests. We could not be more pleased with our girl.
We also want to compliment you on the ease with which we were able to import Hanna into Canada. You handled everything, from documents to flights to customs processing. Your knowledge and expertise as well as your thorough explanation of the process made the experience stress free. We are now waiting for the right time when another Donau-Wirbeln puppy will make their way into our family.
One day Dale and I would like to travel to Romania to meet you in person. Until that time we will have to make do with emails and social media.
Once again, Dale and I want the thank you for allowing us to bring Hanna to Canada to become a part of our family.

I would like to thank you for letting us import one of your fine pups. Rania is amazing, her confirmation, her beauty and her ability to find birds is superb. She has an outstanding personality and is so smart for her age. She will be taking her NAVHDA test in June of this year. I can’t wait for her test results. You have become a great friend and I know if I have any questions or concerns that you will either have the answers or will get back to me with them in a short time. You have proven that you can breed the best of the best. I have contact with a couple other families that have purchased pups from you and they all are very pleased. I have seen several of your dogs win top dog shows all over the world. I hope that you continue your success with your kennel and would not hesitate to purchase another dog from you in the future.
Thanks again for the opportunity to own Rania.

It was December 31st 2013 that I brought Olympia to the USA. Since then I have brought 3 more of your pups here. Peter, Pippa and Qiana. They have been everything you said and then some. Olympia received a PZ 1 in her Natural Ability test. We have used both Peter and Pippa in our professional guide business with great success and they receive many compliments regarding their beauty and work skills. We are training Qiana now and I am confident she will follow in Olympia, Peter and Pippa’s foot steps.
I also want to say what a pleasure it is to work with you, your knowledge of the breed is incredible. You made the process of importation so easy, providing all the documents for me to provide to my agent several days prior to them making the long trip. They all arrived in perfect condition.
To anyone who is looking at your kennel for the source of their new family member, I can assure them from my personal experience with you that they should have no reservations with moving forward.
Though we have never met in person I feel like I have made a friend and could call on you anytime with questions.
I wish you much success.

I can not tell you how happy I am with Notus. I had him trained by a duck dog trainer since I primarily hunt duck and dove. The trainer mainly trained Labs, but has had pointers in the 25 years he has been in business. They were really excited about Notus, claiming he is the best GSP they have ever had. They even pulled another GSP out that was being trained to show me the difference. There was no comparison. Although Notus hunts different than a lab, he is a great retriever and they noted that he is a dog that at the end of a hunt you send out to find anything the other dogs miss. In addition to this, he is a fantastic companion dog, affectionate with my grand kids and loyal to me to a fault. The only complaint I have had about him is he is impossible at soft ball practices... all those balls to retrieve... Then there is little Ursuline, the sweetest little girl ever, and Notus's constant companion. She shows signs she is going to be as good as Notus. I promised my grand daughter that she will be her dog to hunt with. I couldn't be happier, and I appreciated the trouble to point out some foot problems in a few of the dogs from being inside all winter, something you did not have to do, a testament to your honesty. The fact that you are an international judge for the breed, and a hunter of the breed also gives me added confidence in your opinion. On top of all this there is the Hege-Haus blood line that you are breeding from, and trying to preserve. I would recommend you to anyone looking for a GSP or even just information on the breed. Thank you again for all the help and all your honesty.
